SCENE IN A BULL-RING
BUILDINGS FIRED TOREADORS’ ESCAPE MADRID, Aug. 2D. The fury of a largo crowd at being disappointed of a bull-fight led to an extraordinary scene in the town of Ahuargro to-day. The crowd set lire to the bull-ring building, released the bulls, and tried to attack the toreadors. In connection with the annual fair at Almagro a bull tight had been arranged, and people had crowded into the town front all the 'surrounding places. Two of tin* best-known toreadors in Spain were engaged. dust before the time fixed for the bull tight, however, Domingo Ortega, one of.the toreadors, disi-overed that the proprietor of the ring had not sufficient money to pay his fee. He, therefore, refused to tight. As soon as the people 'who filled the place heard this news they made a terrific uproar, and some of the wilder spirits set fire to tin* various buildings surrounding the ring. Meanwhile others rushed in search of the toreadors. TOREADORS’ ESCAPE These, however, had already reached their motor cars, and, still wearing their ornate costumes, were being
driven out of the 'town at a furious pace. They changed their clothes while in the cars.
'Six magnificent bulls were set free. Fortunately, they dashed for the open country instead of the streets of the town, which were thronged with people. Mounted Civil ({minis went in pursuit of them, and after a long and exciting run shot them down with rifles.
The damage done by the tire is estimated at f4OOO. Three persons were slightly injured.
