WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

PUHA MEETING A very pleasant afternoon was spent in the I’iiha Hall last Wednesday when the Pulia Women's Institute met for its October meeting, Mrs. Mark Graham presiding. Bv way of a change, the meeting opened with a new song, the accompaniment being played by Miss N. Coates. A balance sheet read by llie secretary told members how very sueccsslu] was (he recent dance held in aid of the funds. As Mich good results were, obtained, it was decided to purchase some permanent decorations for the hall, acknowledging grateful thanks for the lice use of the bull for the meetings. Members were asked to bring along their spare books as the library is proving a great attraction, it was also decided to send a carton of £e\v Zealand honey to an English institute with Christmas greetings. The, demonstration tor the atternoou, paper (lowers, was in the capable hands of Mrs. W. Lewis, who proved a very popular demonstrator, her Iceland poppies and roses being very akin to nature. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Lewis, on the motion of Miss L. Fletcher.

The. competition, best (Ismed sock, did not bring as many entries as was anticipated, as perhaps this proved no uoveltv to country mothers. The results were as follows :- —MBs M, Nowiji,r, i; Mrs. Alan Campbell, 2. 7\ dainty afternoon tea was served bv I lie hostesses, Mesdames Mooney and Newiug and Miss G. Newing.
