THE OPENING POSTPONED^ NO V/ORD OF BUYING PRICES The Haiti freezing works will not open next Monday for early Jamb killing, as was believed possible recently. No date has been fixed for the commencement of 1 ;>> season, but it was announced that it nay not i.e before October 31. The actual opening date will depend on the number of lambs offering, it is stated,* : ud there are insufficient available at present to warrant a start being made. Show stock, however, will he slaughtered on Thursday. No buying operations of early lamb for export have been reported in tho disfn.t, and producers are still in the dark in regard to the opening rates. The uncertainty of the markets recently and the low figures secured on Smithfieid during recent months have prepared farmers to expe t a much lower basis than last yiar’s opening rate of 6£d, but many will he surprised to learn that 4<l per lb. i- being spoken in the Waikato as the limit to which buyers may be prepared t< go.
