New Sydney Station
THE Lord Mayor, Alderman S. Walder officially opened from St. James’ Theatre, Sydney, on the night of October 2 the new radio transmitting station of 2UE at Lillipilli, Port Hacking. Alderman Walder said that the big system which had been installed in the new station, was new to Australia, being one of the latest developments in the United States. The towers of tho new station were 200 ft. high, and about 600 ft. above sea level. Tho station is 12 miles from the G.P.0., and it was the only B class transmitting station on the southern side of Sydney. It would give 2UB a greater clarity during daylight, and listeners all over Australia would be ablo to enjoy its programmes. Station 2UE began in 1925 with a power of 5 watts, increased its power in 1928 to 200 watts, and now had a power of 3000 watts, the maximum allowed for a R class station. Its broadcasting time would be increased to 112 hours a wgok.
