COLLECTIONS IN CHURCHES

(To tlie Editor of the Herald.) Sir —Would you kindly allow Space for tliis letter in answer to “Workingman Churchgoer” re collections m churches. “Churchgoer” believes tho churches are empty because of the open collection plate, land says he has often stayed away because ho could not afford to put into the collection. If Churchgoer” reads St, Matthew, 6:1, there lie will find good reading to satisfy bis soul. Then again, why should a man who has attended church all bis life be ashamed of what lie gives to the Lord? Freely ye have received, freely give. Remember the Widow s Mite. Read Mniacbi. chapter 3, verses 8. 9 land 10. T disagree with “Churchgoer” that the. collection plate keeps tho church empty. It is because men have forgotten God. Had “Churchgoer” studied the Social state of the, world—unemployment, poverty, famine, pestilence, riots, wars, minors of wars, earthquakes, nation against nations. All these are beginning of sorrows. "Many shall 1» offended, and shall betray eacli other and because iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.” Matthew, 24:6, 10. Here is the reason for empty churches—the Bible says *o—but what a glorious promise: “ITe that endures to the end the same shall lie saved.”-—Yours, elc. “SALVATIONIST” [This 'correspondence must now close. — Editor, Herald.]
