ROAD CYCLE RACE
“PRO.” CLUB’S EVENT LIMIT MAN STAYS OUT Riding a hard race from the limit mark of Smin. 30sec., E. Gray stayed out in front of the field in yesterday’s road race round the King’s road circuit. He set a hot pace from the start, and was never headed, his ride being a lonely enough one, though the distance was not sufficient to make very serious demands on a well-trained rider. All nine of the contestants finished the course without trouble, and some fast riding was done by the back-markers, in their vain efforts to get up with the leader.
Nearest to Gray right through the race to ihe last mile was Chas. Davis, who stuck it out in second position practically to the finish, but was finally headed off by A. Church and N. Beale, who filled second and third places respectively behind Gray. Fastest time was registered by Harry Davis, from the scratch mark, this rider completing the course in 31min. ssec.
