NEXT WEEK’S TOURNEY AMATEUR BOUTS DRAWN For the amateur preliminary bouts in connection with next week’s .tournament of the Gisborne Wrestling Association, the number of entries received was far in excess of that required, and in fact so much budding talent has been unearthed in recent weeks that a Poverty Bay championship tournament for amateur grhpplers is to be staged in the near future by the association. The best of those whose performances are known have been selected to furnish the early limits at next week’s tournament, the draw having been made as under : Heavyweight.—Miilninga. Brown v. G. Had won.

Welterweight.—A. Stratton v. W Burt.

Lightweight.—J. Boag v. It. Russell; A. Reed v. H. Badham.

Feathenvoight.—lt. Hunt v. J. Callaghan. The welterweight, Stratton, is from Palmerston North, and holds the welter amateur championship of the Manawatu, according to his credentials. He has competed at the national championships,, and has done well in good competition, being runner-up to the welter champion at the last national meeting. His opponent for next Friday is a well-known local amateur who has been a consistent winner, even when giving away substantial weight advantages to his opponents. At the lust. Gisborne tournament he drew with a clever opponent whose skill was backed by-wonderful physical strength, and in doing so maintained his reputation for hard and skilful wrestling.
