WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
TE KAKAKA MEETING The To Raraka Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in the Parish Hall on 'Thursday afternoon, Miss jOrr presiding over a large attendance. The membership is steadily increasing, keen interest being shown sit each meeting. After the singing of the institute song, which was accompanied by Mrs. Allen, the business part of the programme was satisfactorily dealt with. A good deal of discussion ensued as to ways and means of raising sullicient funds to build an institute room, a building fund being commenced in the meantime. Mrs. Taylor, Matawai, then gave an interesting demonstration of paper flower making, roses and tulips being shown waxed, the finished article looking very real and artistic. The demonstrator was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The roll cal!, “riddles,” brought forth an excellent .response, this being quite an entertainment in itself. The competition, best article for a stall, was very good, being won bv Mrs. Allen, with a very realistic toy camel beautifully made from a calfskin. Miss 11. Fisher was second, her fancy work on linen being much admired. An entertainment committee was formed, and arrangements made for the (birthday party next month. A delicious afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Stevens and Ribbon. It was decided to appoint four hostesses in future as new members are enrolling every month.
The sales table did a brisk business in charge of Mesdames Fisher and Hall A verv enjoyable afternoon was brought, to «i close by the singing of the National Anthem
