BRITISH MEAT QUOTAS

WILL INCREASE PRICES PAR-REACHING EFFECTS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Oct. 15, 11 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 14. The Manchester Guardian, editorially, says the Ottawa quotas are certain to cause a general rise in meat prices, which is not likely to be confined to the produce of the Dominions. A probable reduction in the amount ol imported nozen beef may raise the price of Argentine chilled, and also English fresh beef, but the extent of the rise depends on the purchasing power of the Britisu market, unless that is raised all artificial methods of raising prices will be useless, and it may eventually be found that the meat quotas are the most important and most far-reaching of tlie agreements made at Ottawa. ARGENTINE ALARMED AGREEMENT ADVOCATED (Received October 15, noon.) BUENOS A IRES, Oct. 14. It is understood that the powerful Rural Society has sent a message to tin; President requesting an immediate clarification of Argentina’s position in llie face of the Ottawa agreements, “which are most prejudical to the Argentine.” Stressing the fact that 1931 Argentine exports to Britain were valued at 246,000,000 gold pesos, and the British exports to Argentina 106.000,000 pesos, the society expressed the opinion that immediate steps towards an AngloArgentine commercial rapprochement should bo taken.
