TIGHT-ROPE TRAGEDY
CHILD PERFORMERS KILLED BERLIN, Aug. 17. A tight-rope accident, in which two children were killed, took place last evening at Schwetzingen, near Mannheim. A family of acrobats named Frank,- consisting of a man and his two children, a girl of 12 and a boy of 11, were giving their farewell performance in the town. Together with a boy pupil aged lb they were all on the tight-rope when the scaffoklisg supporting it collapsed, and they fell 40ft. to the ground. The father received only trifling injuries, but his children were carried away gravely injured, and died soon afterwards. The apprentice’s condition is also described as hopeless. The tragedy is said to have been caused bv the negligence of an attendant in failing to make sure that the rope was firmly secured.
