C., was to supply what a vast number of the people of the 'country were wanting, both m the realm of music aiid of sipeech They were bringing. the leading figures of this country—and before long, he poped, of other countries—right into the homes o.f the people themselves. Mr. Whiteley’s advice to his hearers wsa iiot to listen too, much. Listening that was done at the expense of reading was riot, a benefit. The 8.8. C., He said, sent out sOrtie 14 hours of broadcasting each weekday; but he .did not advise any individual to listen for,.more.,than two hours., a, day. They ought ,to keep a. bookshelf beside .their wireless set, and the moment anything began, which did not interest; them they should switch off and reach.for a book. ... Listening aiid reading should be partners.
