ENGLISH CRICKET

YORKSHIRE’S FINE SIDE SUSSEX HANDICAPPED (Received August 31, noon) LONDON, Aug. 30.

Though it could not affect the championship, great interest was taken in the cricket nia toll at Brighton between Y orkshire and Sussex, in which Yorkshire demonstrated that it is indisputably tho Strongest side in England, thanks largely' to Sutcliffe, Loyland, Verity, and Bowes, all of whom performed strikingly in this match. Sussex, handicapped by the absence through the illness of Duleepsinhji, Bowley, and YVensley, was defeated outright for the first time this season. Sutcliffe’s 3000 runs in a season for the third time broke the record jointly held by Banjitsin’liji, Hayward, and Mead. To-day’s century was Sutcliffs thirteenth, this season.

With more matches still to be played. Sutcliffe bus scored as many centuries in a season as any player with the exception of Hobbs, who, in 1925, had 16 hundreds to his credit. Sutcliffe has now scored 13 centuries in each of three seasons, a feat that has been equalled by Hendren. Fry, Hayward, and Mead are the only other players to have made 13 hundreds in one year.
