STRANDED IN ROTORUA
RELIEF WORKERS’ PLIGHT # A telegram was received in Rotorua from the acting-Minister of Employment, the Hon. A. Hamilton, by Mr ('. 71. ■Clinkard, ALP,, in connection with the recommendations for the relief workers front the Kaingaroa Plains. Mr Hamilton stated that these men were employed (by the Forestry Department, and’the Unemployment Board found the money to pay the men relief wages. As tho men left their employment, they broke contract with the Forestry Department, and the board had no authority to supply money to pay expenses in helping the men to return to their homes.
Ten of tho 2d men concerned have returned to their homes, and the remainder are stranded in the town and are without means, The Rotorua Relief Workers’.. Association has helped to secure food and lodging for the men up to the present, but their position is- becoming serious. Representations were made to the acling-Alimster of Employment for assistance so that tho men could return to the places from which they came.
