NEW ZEALAND HONEY
MARKET IN UNITED STATES PRAISE IN TRADE JOURNAL The market enjoyed by New Zealand honey in the United States is given congratulatory comment, not unmixed with envy, in the July issue of the American Bee Journal. New Zealand honey, according to the writer, sells for nearly four times as much as the finest American liquid white clover honey, and finds a market half-way round the world.
The writer states that, a storekeeper in a wealthy district of Philadelphia had sold 10 cases of New Zealand honey since the beginning of the winter, and was ordering more. He was offered fancy comb honey, wrapped in cellophane, and replied that it would be, impossible for him to sell it. Since be had started stocking New Zealand honey, his customers had refused to take other varieties.
“1 havo ordinary local extracted honey on the shelves, and it stays there.” the storekeeper said. “But the new honey does not stay—it sells. Everyone who tries it likes it, and my sales are increasing. it has a wonderful flavor and, because it is in solid form, if does not drip when served.” “New Zealand honey producers have done a good job," the writer continues.
“Their country is about the size of the State of Colorado, and with about as many people ns the city of Detroit, Yet the beekeepers, with the aid of the flovernment, have been able to give Now Zealand honey almost world-wide distribution.”
