BOOKMAKERS FINED
RAID IN. WELLINGTON (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. As a result of police raids oil hotels and business houses, four men appeared iu the Magistrate's Court to-day on charges connected with bookmaking. George Harold Bennett, a barman, pleaded not guilty to using the bar of the Alhambra Hotel for the purpose of betting, and was remanded for a week. William l J aul, barmau in the New Zealander llote-I, and Joseph McCabe, a hairdresser, pleaded guilty to using premises for betting purposes and were lined £2O each. Gtistav Sydney Davis, an agent, who pleaded guilty tir a. charge of carrying on 'business as a bookmaker, was-,fined £4O.
