SUNKEN TREASURE SOUGHT
£BOO,OOO WENT DOWN WITH SHIP IN 1911 NEW YORK, July 15. Off in search of £BOO,OOO sunken treasure, Captain Harry L. Bowdoin, of Whitestone, N.Y., embarked yesterday jn the ».s. Salvor for a spot approximately 05 miles off Calpo Henry, where the s.s. Merida sank in 210 ft. of water after "being rammed in 1911. Believed to have had aboard £BOO,OOO in gold, as well ns tho famous a-übies and other crown jewels of the ill-fated Empress Maximilian, of Mexico, tho Morula heretofore has defied the efforts of treasure seekers using ordinary apparatus. Captain JBbwdoin, however, is taking along (equipment never yet used. Jt includes a diving tank for observation, which he believes will enable the divers to locate their definite goal before going down to work. The Salvor will carry a crew of 24, among them Captain Philip Moore, who Was navigator for previous expeditions which succeeded in locating the Merida, but failed to get near the supposed treasure. Coal, water and food supplies will enable the Salvor to stay at sea for a month at a time.
