DRAMATIC RAID

ALLEGED GAMBLERS ARRESTED BRISBANE, May .10. Detective McDermott, of Sydney, played a prominent part in a dramatic raid by detectives last night on an alleged gambling place in Queen street, which resulted in the arrest of 43 men. The chiming of the Town Hall clock at 9.30 p.m. was the signal for a concerted attack on the premises from front and rear. Guards were seized and they had no time to utter a warning. The first intimation of the raid that the players received was given when Detective McDermott mounted a table and warned all prosent to stand their ground. They all obeyed except one man, who escaped through a trapdoor.
