MILITANT NAZIS
WARLIKE PREPARATIONS TERRORIST CAMPAIGN FEARED LONDON, March 30. The Nazis have chosen Kreiensen, Brunswick, as their headquarters, and a Nazi garrison now dominates the town. Tho place has been selected, says the Berlin correspondent of the Manchester Guardian, because Brunswick territory gives the Nazis an immunity that is unobtainable elsewhere, owing to a Nazi Minister, Herr Klagges, being in power. Two factories have been turned into barracks, and recruits from other cities are being subjected to intensive training- . ■ Brown-coated militia and storm troops in black uniforms conduct night operations in lorries, on which searchlights are mounted, against,.an imaginary foe. The Nazis have concealed all except their lighter arms, and, it is said, are amply prepared in the event of civil war. Refugees from the police find sanctuary at Kreiensen, which is a strategically important railway centre. Herr Klagges is tolerating the gangsters who have flocked to the place and against whom the three local constables are powerless. One gallant old man, who defended himself with a stick when the Nazis attacked him because he resented 'the demolition of a Hindenburg poster, appealed to an official for protection. Ha was merely told to close the window shutters of his home on the approached: danger and to retire to an inner room! The Nazis recently shot a lad, who is now in hospital. The citizens fear a resumption of terrorism when the Easter truce, which is being observed by all political parties throughout Germany, expires. Pressure from Berlin has so iar frustrated Herr Hitler’s intention of breaking the truce.
