DIRT TRACKS BLAMED

PHAR LAP’S INJURY OPERATION ON HOOF (Received April G, noon.) NEW YORK, April 5. A message from San Bruno, California, says that because his flying feet now pound American dirt tracks instead of Australian turf, Phar Imp has hoof trouble, his trainer, Woodcock, said to-day.

Phar Lap underwent a hoof operation several days ago, and until he is completely recovered he will wear a specially made shoe.

The horse had a slight split in one hoof, and the operation was to clean and trim the split where the dirt had gathered in it.
