EX-BOXER’S COMEBACK
THREE MEN FOR HOSPITAL SYDNEY, March 19.,/ Three men who went to a house in Dowling street yesterday to re-possess a / motor car found themselves up against a former heavyweight boxer, who, in his heyday, had been amateur champion of Victoria, and instead of getting the car they had to receive treatment at fit* Vincent’s Hospital. The battle lasted 20 minutes, a crowd of 300 neighbors watching from a safe distance.
With a single punch, the former boxer split one man’s face from the left eye to the lip and seven stitches were later inserted m the wound.
Another man was sent stumbling backwards from one side of the road to tho other, where he dropped. Eventually someone telephoned Darlinghurst police, and Plain-clothes Constable Moye.made his way through the crowd.
As soon as the ex-boxer saw the constable he dropped his arms and stood against a fence, and, after questioning tire sorry-Looking trio, the constable informed him that he was under arrest-
His fury gone, the man said quietly, “I’ll go with you at once, constable ” ■ Later, at Darlinghurst Police Station, he was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm
In a statement to the police he said that some time ago he got a motor car on time-payment, and had paid more than £2OQ on it. Recently, however, ho ran short of money, and could not pay, and .the three men had gone to his home to lake back the car on behalf of the firm from whom lie had bought it. Only £3O remained to be paid on it, ho said
