AUSTRALIA’S FINANCE
THE REAL HURDLE The “Investors’ Chronicle’’ has published an article endued “Australia Reviewed.” Dealing with the financial position, the writer describes the repayment of £13,000,000 in November ns the real hurdle Australia has to tako. “If she can take it in impressive style,” he continued, “her way should be relatively easy in 1933. The investor in Australian securities backs Australia’s good fortune in overcoming her trouble. This fact Ims emerged sufficiently since last summer to cause an improvement in Australian stocks, but serious problems remain. The present yields do not appear, to exaggerate tho speculative ingredient. Investors may perceive, howfever, that the risks are largely, though not entirely. political, while hopes are largely, though not entirely economic. The Australian land and pastoral companies and agencies, therefore, reservo the attention of any who may wish to make an investment in Australia. There has been a distinct revival in the shares of the pastoral companies since the autumn, and there need be no rush to invest at once.”
