LEAGUE OF NATIONS
BRITISH ADMIRAL’S CRITICISM
‘ ‘ MISCHIEVOUS ORGANISATION ’ ’
MELBOURNE, March 15.
Rear-Admiral M. W. P. Consett, who reached Melbourne to-day in the Orford, strongly criticised the League of Nations, which he said was a “mischievous organisation. ’ ’
Without the League, he declared, the present Sino-Japnneso position would have been less grave. The League gave China the opportunity to “kick .Tap.au on the shins” and then run to'it for protection. Now China was hiding behind the League. Every nation ought to recognise its indebtedness to Japan for “cleaning up” Manchuria, which was a lawless country with soldiers who wore bandits.
It was a great mistake to believe that those who opposed the League of Nations were opposed to world pence, he added. There was nothing so dangerous to world peace as the creation of a false sense of security among nations.
