OBITUARY

MRS. JOHN GALLIE At the age of 76 .years, there passed away on December 30 one of New Zealand’s earliest .settlers in the person !of. Mi's John Gallic, of Kelburn. Wellington, mother of Mrs L. Tulloek, of Whatatutu, Gisborne. The deceased lady was gifted above the average, and her many acts of loving kindness endeared her to a very large number; of intimate friends throughout, the Dominion. Mrs Gallic was born at Cupar, in Fife,- Scotland, and at the early ago of, two' years, with her parents, Mr and Mrs James Buttars, and two older sisters, came out to New'Zealand on the sailing ship Strathallan, landing in 1858; a brother was born on the. voyage. At. a very early age Mrs Gallic began to write, and at, the birth of the present Prince of Wales, she ■sent a beautifully-worded poem to the present Queen, receiving in reply' a gracious acknowledgment from Buck'iiiglmm Palace. 1 The wonderful old faith of. her father and mother upheld her . through many trials and sorrows uncomplainingly, and it could truly be said that she lived her life unselfishly and lovingly for others. The sympathy of-a host of friends will he,,extended to Mr John Gallic and Miss Gallic; ’ another daughter,. Mrs Lawrxe Tulloek, of Whatatutu, and her sons, Mr John Gallic, of Brisbane, a,ud Mr G.ly Gallic, of Tanranga; also two grandchildren, Leith and Oscar 'Tulloek, and her, sisters, Mrs Gelid Kerr, of Opotiki, and Mrs A. K. Hislop, sen., of Wellington. Timm other sons passed away a few years ago.

A very old resident of the Waikato. I Mr. Thomas Pennell, .died, in Hamilton on Wednesday. Deceased held , the position , of. overseer to- .the Cambridge Road Board for 45 years, putting in continuous service from 1878 to 1924. One of Groytovyu’s oldest residents, Mr. Thomas Fisher, was found dead as - the result of heart failure. The late Mr. Fisher was born in Groytown in 1857 and ihatL resided there all his life. , Mr, .Fisher , was probably ,onp of the oldest members of .a tiro brigade in the AVairarapa, ncitig actively, associated with the Greytown brigade for ,39 years. While spending a holiday at Rotorua, -Mr. Frank .Robbins, a prominent Wellington bowler and a former secretary of the Nowtpwi'i club, died. The late. Mr, Robbins, who was for 20. years, on the .staff of the T. and G. Mutual Fife Society, resided at Wellington for many you rtf,, and was transferred to,A'b']<in,J|<l.4 yeav Jig».
