This achievement is the work of Professor Windaus, of Gottingen Uni versify, who in 1927 succeeded in extracting from ergosterin, which had been treated with ultra-violet rays, a substance containing a 'large proportion of this particular vitamin. After years'of further work he has been able to free this substance completely from tho by-products of irradiation which it contained, so that the vitamin is left in absolutely uncontaininated condition.
