The alleged doping of Donpnt: in September, IffJO. was the basis of an action by the trainer, Charles Chapman, against Lord Roseberry, Lord Ellormefe, and Lord tin re wood, stewards of the Jockey (Tub, Weather by and Sons, publishers of the .Racing Calendar, and tho proprietors of the Times for libel in publishing the stewards’ ilcehuon warning oil Chapman from Newmarket and disqualifying' the Imrse. The defendants pleaded 'privilege a,nd jiis-ti licat ion. Counsel contended that they never said Chapman doped tin' horse.

Evidence was given •that the plainfid had offered a .0(10 reward and employed a private detective -to discover the doper, but failed. The jury found that.
