TOURISTS ROBBED

SCRIPTURE RECALLED BRIGANDS IN HOLY LAND JERUSALEM, Nov. 29. The man in Scripture who went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves has many modern companions in misfortune owing to highway robberies, believed to be due to the escape of jail-birds from Amman. At least 50 were robbed at a lonely spot yesterday. Brigands stopped eight motor ears and three motor buses, threatening the drivers with instant death unless they halted. They tore rings off women’s lingers, menacing them with rifles and revolvers and beat some male passengers with sticks. The sufferers include prominent British residents, among whom is a daughter of the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem, also some tourists. One American was robbed of £IOO.
