■' JOINS RUSSIAN NAVY RIGA. October 9. The former British submarine L 55, which sank during the operations off Kronstadt in 1919 and was raised by the Bolshevists in 1938, was formally incorporated in Hie Soviet Navy at an impressive ceremony at Leningrad today. After speeches by prominent Soviet naval officials the ceremony was concluded by the singing of the "Inter nntionale,” and the hoisting of Hie Rod Flag, The submarine L 55, commanded by Lieut.-Commander C. M. S. Chapman, was sunk by a Russian destroyer in Kaporsky Bay in Hie Baltic in 1919, with tho loss of all on board—43 lives. Nine, years later, in 1928. tho subtimrino was raised to the surface by Russian salvage workers, and taken into dock at Kronstadt. The skeletons of the crew were found on hoard and were reverently guarded try officers and men of tho Russian Navy while the British Government- was consulted with regard to burial.
