The council came -unanimously to the conclusion that,*, as. more, than 100 delegates front all -member countries had practicality completed i long journeys; the conference, should be proceeded with; v althougH'inAa.modified form. A radio messages has ? since* been received.: by Sir James Allen from Mr. J. E. Strachan? chairman of the. New Zealand-delegation, stating that after the opening'speeches of the chairman, Mr. Jerome D. Greene, and Dr. Hu Shihv there.nvas'jio danger of'the. conference collapsing, and.-that the. prospects were nowvgood. It is: explained ,in a. memorandum from the...chairman; Mr, Greene, that the complete.abandonment of the conference would, gjye the t erroneous impression ;,that tire*.principal business of the institute was to deal with current political issues; Thejnstitute was-an inttenational i body, existing, for the study.'of the conditions of the Pacificpeoples with a* view- to improving, mutual relations by organising group -discussions - and : continuous research.
