PIGS

SOME OUTSTANDING QUALITY Judge: Mr. A. L. Kemp. Although the pig entries were not so large as last year, this section contained some outstanding quality. The judge, Mr. A. L. Kemp, of Ruatoria, mentioned two animals ns being fit to win in any Show in New Zealand. Mr. Kemp expressed disappointment in the decrease in tho entries, but said tho quality had not suffered. The porker classes contained some nice animals, hut some of them were much too heavy, bordering! on baconer weights. The weaners were a nice lot.

The Tamworth hoar that won the first prize, and also the winning Tamworth sow with litter were ideal animals, well dono and well grown. Both should win in any show in New Zealand. The Largo White sow was also of a fine type. Mr. Kemp mentioned the difficulty a single judge had of adjudicating among all breeds. Of course, the size of tho pig section did not warrant more than one judge being engaged, but in tho larger shows (here were different judges for each breed, just as there were, different judges for various breeds of cattle or sheep, lie had endeavored to surmount these difficulties to the best of his ability, and he trusted Ire had given satisfaction to all exhibitors. Commenting on a pen of pigs displayed for exhibition purposes only, he said they should have shown more length for their weight. They were too heavy and fat, and they boro evidence of having been checked in growth at one stage. Berkshire boar (1 entry): R. W. Hamilton 1. Berkshire boar, under 12 months (1 entry): R. AV.
