BRITAIN’S INCREASE LONDON, Sept. 16. Mr Snowden in a written reply to a question by Miss Lawrence, says that on ilie existing basis of taxation it is estimated that, about 5,250,000 persons come under review for income-tax purposes, of whom about 3,000j0C0 are entirely relieved by the various allowances, ’ leaving 2,250.000 actually paying tax. It is very difficult to forecast the effort on these numbers of the changes ■nrmv'sed in tin budget, hut il is estimated that the effect will he to increase the numbers actually paying tax by between 1,500,000 and 2,000,000 persons.
