REGENT THEATRE Tho screen version of “East Lynne” will be presented for. the last time to-night. The principal roles are taken 'by Ann Harding, Clive Brook arid Conrad Nagel. The British picture, “Tons of Money”, will be screened to-morrow. Ralph Lynn plays the part of Aubrey Allington, an irresponsible inventor, whose latest invention is a high explosive. His financial affairs are in such a tangle that the- nows that lie has received an interest amounting to £15,000 in the will of his deceased brother brings but passing jov. To evade the creditors, Aubrey’s wife, Louise (Yvonne Arnaud), conceives the idea of her husband being ‘killed’ in an explosion and turning up as George .Maitland, a cousin of Aubrey’s believed to have been killed in Mexico and next in line for the money. Aubrey arrives as .Maitland, a gun-totin’, sombrero-clad bomb re from Mexico, but things become a little involved when the real Maitland’s wife turns up to claim .her husband. Louise learns that upon the death of Maitland, the cash passes on to her, whereupon “Maitland‘dies, by drowning.” Before the real George Maitland ’ lias arrived at the Allington home, Aubrey has effected a successful compromise With an imposter whom they believed to be the real Maitland.

MAJESTIC THEATRE Joan Crawford, who appears in “Laiighing Sinners” at the Majestic tonight, adds another success to her credit. As the worldly Salvation Army girl who forsakes liel- tambourine for the arms- of her travelling salesman lover, she scales new dramatic heights in this picturisation oE the stage play, “The Torch Song.” If anything, the new picture is an even more dramatic one than “Within the Law.” Sharing leading honors are Neil Hamilton and Clark Gable. Hamilton plays the part of the old love who. comes back into the repentant girl’s life. Gable is the simple Salvation Army boy, worshipping her with an honest faitli and devotion. Both are excellently east. Excellent supports are included in. the programme, .together with a gazette comedy and cartoon. OPERA HOUSE At the Opera House to-morrow night tho four-nights’ season of “High Jinks,” the witty musical farce, produced by Messrs. Gardston and Baxter with local talent, will commence. The play is brimful of screamingly funny situations,' pretty, bright music, and delightful ballets. The frocking and scenic effects have been artistically arranged, and the effects, throughout present, scenes of vivid animation. The cast, choruses and ballets have been carefully trained, and last night’s dress rehearsal showed that they are at; the top of their form and will put “High Jinks” over the footlights in a manner that ivill please and givo a thoroughly enjoyable three hours’ entertainment, which none should fail to miss. . ■ ’ •
