WAIAPU HOSPITAL
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING (Herald Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Waiapu Hospital Board was presided over by the chairman, Mr. A. W. Kirk, and there were present- also Messrs. 11. H Fairlie, J. D. Fenn, F. W- J- l'ox, (~ McKeddie, €. R. ’ E- Wood, and A. B. Williams. Tho Director-General of Health advised that an ■ overdraft limit of £ISOO had been approved by the department. Tho board was called -upon to - lay down a policy for the* administration ot the To Avarua hospital, and the following proposal was -adopted: ‘The hospital is to bo primarily a . maternity hospital, and all maternity cases offering are to be*taken, subject, .to regulations. No other patients are to be admitted except, extremely _ urgent cases which cannot- be sent to le l’uia.. Ibe medical officer, is to be in uontro! of the administration generally, including . the supervision of grounds, and the sister i-i to bo responsible for the nursing and household management. When the medical officer is. in doubt as to whether a patient should be admitted, !i * is to refer to the. medical superintendent at To Puia.” The, district nurse at Tißitl’ i reported that she had attended 22 Maoris and inie European : also two births and one death. She visited seven Maori pas and lour Maori schools, I;nd delivered six lectures during the month., Sister Franks, in charge of the, le Araroa Hospital,' reported that three maternity and two general eases had been admitted during September-, and five patients had been discharged, leaving two in hospital. Nurse Baine, in 'charge of the Tokoniaru Bay maternity home, reported that three patients had been discharged during tho month ; there had been no admissions. , , . Dr. N. R Mtckay, medical superintendent of le Puia Hospital, report r*d Hint 27 patients bad been admitted and 20 discharged during the month, j leaving 1.8 patients in hospital. Mr Kenneth Mnckny reported in connection with his inspection of the asphalting at To Puia Hospital, stating that the whole area should be renewed. The National Provident Fund advised that tho new legislation enabled contributions, to the fund to reduce their contributions in cases where salaries had been reduced. —It was resolved to submit the matter to the board's staff to ascertain their wishes. The Health Department advised that tlie Minister of Health had approved the expenditure oil the proposed water supplv at Tp Puia. The secretary mentioned that the previous estimate of £SOO was too low, and it would be necessary to provide a further £450 by levy on conritv councils and Government subsidy. The necessary resolution was passed to levy the additional amount, subject to the right of the county councils to lodge a protest. It was resolved to call tenders for the work, and to inquire if the department would 'consider indenting the necessary, piping. - t
