THE MONTHLY MEETING i The council of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce held Us monthly meeting yesterday, afternoon. 1 There were present: Mr: TV R, Ball, in the chair, Messrs. T. E, Toncycliffe, A. L. Muir, B. W. J.- Edwards, James Glirisp, T. Corson, If. F. Forster, T. G. Lawless, C. G. Rloore, V. E. Sanders, and 11. H. DeCosta. Reporting on the Onchungn-Manukau chamber’s proposal, of settlepn'iit, the chairman said he did ' pot think it I practicable, t The scheme provided for the men receiving 2s a. day as going towards capital fqr the purchaseof land; in two years, the chairman commented, each man would have nearly £4O/ There had been too many eases of men starting with little or no' capital.—Correspondence on the matter was received.. The Hawaii tourist bureau forwarded publicity regarding the national and foreign trade councils’ conference,' planned for May, 1932, with a request that it be made available to members of the chamber.—-Received. In response to an inquiry from the Gisborne, chamber, the acting secretary,
of the Auckland Harbor Board wrote i as under: “I am in receipt of your s letter regarding transhipments to Gis.- < • borne ex overseas vessels, and in reply 1 beg to inform you that no separate 1 record is kept of transhipments to the j.] various ports of New Zealand. and to specialise the publicity for respective countries and also for various types of tourists, for the promotion of tourist traffic in New-Zea-land.—The meeting agreed that the present time was inopportune to consider the matter. Notice was received from the .Associated Chambers of Commerce of *a motion to be tabled at the annual con-/ foronce in Wellington, to the effect that the executive shall consist of the president, vice-president, immediate past-president, three members of the North and South Islands respectively, aml-sevcn members resident in the city of Wellington. —Received. The Invercargill Chamber of Commerce pointed out that many overseas steamers used foreign timbers; for dunnage, and asked support to a request. that they should use New Zealand second grade timbers.—lt was decided to support the request.
