HIGH SCHOOL AFFAIRS

GOVERNORS’ BOARD MEETS There was again a short list of business for the consideration of the board of j governors of the Gisborne High School at the monthly meeting yesterday afternoon. There were present Messrs H. E. Bright, deputy-chairman, J. Kinder, T. Todd, R. Robertson, and E. H. I Raker. Apologies were received on behalf of Messrs L. T. Burnard and F. W. Nolan In his report, the rector, Mr. F. Foote, mentioned that the attendance had suffered to some extent through the influenza epidemic, but was now almost back j to normal. The school sports had been conducted with gratifying success during the month.. The school roll at pro-. sent comprised 461, including 267 boys and 170 girls in the secondary school, and 24 in the preparatory department. The- rector reported further that the primary school chief inspector, Mr McGaskill, had furnished a most satisfactory report on the preparatory department’s work under Miss A. Murray. The board expressed its gratification regarding the inspector’s report, and desired that its appreciation be conveyed to Miss Murray. The organisation of the annual sports meeting was also favorably commented on, and Mr. Adams was‘tendered the congratulations of the board on this head. A number of routine matters were dealt with in the course of the meeting.
