NAPIER IMMUNE
NO FLOODING ON FLATS Immunity from the menace of a flood of the same seriousness as that which is sweeping the low-lying lands surrounding. Brookfields and Pakowhai is being enjoyed by the flat portions of Napier, which, before the earthquake, were subject to inundation in the event of abnormal conditions in the Tutaekuvi, states the lo.egrnph of Monday. It was generally realised that the raising of the land 'within the limits of Napier by about 6 or 7ft, would give additional protection to Napier, and the effects of the present conditions appear to support this belief. Many alteration on pre-’q'tnl-n WMs Rave already been recorded, and official.*: have noticed that a number of localities, which, previously, were usually among the first to become flooded, have, on this occasion, been comparatively free from water. Notable among these is the Meanee-Pakowhai road near the Brookfields bridge, and the Twvfnrd district.
