WAIAPU & MATAKAOA UNITED (Herald Correspondent.) : The first meeting of the newly-elected Waiapu Hospital Board was held at ie. Puia Hospital on Monday. 1 resent: Messrs. 11. 11. Fairlie, J. D. Rnn. L \y Fox, C. H. McCracken, G. Me-, Keddie, \L S. H. Rickard, A. B. Williams, and C. R. L. Wood. Mr. A. W. Kirk, who was elected chairman, thanked members for -the, honor conferred on him. The Director-General of Health wrote enclosing a copy of Order-in-Counci l unitiim the Waiapu and Matakaoa hospital boards. The director forwarded the Governor-General’s warrant appointing members of the board, members being the nine (as above). Messrs. McKeddie and Wood representing Matakaoa County, and the other seven Waiapu County. The director also advised the approval of a bank overdraft up to £2000.-—Received. The Health Department wrote regardin"' gas supply for Tc Puia Hospital, offering to send up a technical officer 'to inspect the supply. Tlie medical superintendent was able to report that recent work carried out at the gas intakes undei his instructions had considerably improved the flow of gas. The department also wrote regarding the water supply for the hospital.—A committee was appointed comprising the chairman, Messrs. Williams, Fox, and the secretary fo receive the plains when completed, with instructions to push on the undertaking us rapidly as possible. The Pukeora Sanatorium wrote reportin”' on patients in Hie institution. Jhe secretary reported fihat arrangements were being made to transfer these two patients to To Puia Hospital, to save the Board the expense of their further maintenance at Pukeora. The Cook Hospital Board notified a patient admitted to Cook Hospital, and forwarded the quarterly statement regarding patients’ fees. —Received. ° The Waiapu County Council notified acceptance of tho estimates. The To Araroa Trading Go. wrote inquiring the position as to iutuio supplies for To Araroa Hospital.—Tho company is to he asked to continue supplying tlie hospital, as in live past. The district nurse, Tikitiki, notified 25 cases attended for June, seven at the cottage hospital and 18 ut their own homes. The medical superintendent reported : Te Puia Hospital for June: Twenty-five admitted. 26 discharged, and 10 ropiaining. Maternity home, Tokornaru Bay: Nine cases, li discharged, and three remaining, . . ~ Two tenders were received lor the supply of bread to the hospital—Mr. S. J. Lee, Is 2d per 41b. loaf, and Mr. JL A. Findlay, Is 2d per 411). loaf, less 2£ per cent. Mr. Findlay’s tender was accepted. Meetings were arranged to be held, monthly, 10 meetings at To I’uia and two meetings at Te Araroa. _ The first meeting is to be held at To Araroa in August. _ Applications are to be called for the position of medical officer to Te Araroa Hospital at a. salary of £l5O per annum, with the right of private practise. The meeting affirmed the principle that To Araron Hospital bo primarily a maternity hospital, with one bod for general emergency cases Patients seeking admission to Te Puia Hospital are to provido their own transport. It was decided to have the Matakaoa hospital land titles transferred ,to the Waiapu board. The medical superintendent was authorised to obtain a probationer nurse at To Puia- Hospital, if required. If was resolved to transfer an inmate of the Memorial Home to Te Puia to save the Ixuird the cost- of maintenance.

Arrangements were made for topdressing the grounds at Te l'uia. and Te Araroa.

Messrs. McKeifilie and Wood were appointed a visiting committee at Te Araroa.

The Agricultural Department is to be asked to give an opinion as to whether loganberries are dangerous to have in the garden at Te Puia. Mr. Williams offered the use of more pipes to bring in the temporary water supply, Hie pipes loaned by Mr. Kirk being already laid.
