PLANNED FOR LONDON
WILL 30 YEARS TO BUILD
LONDON, May 36.
The task of building London's great new university in Blobmsbiir'y is to be entrusted to a single architect. For tho past year the university authorities have been' considering suitable candidates for this, 'one of the greatest' commissions in the history of British architecture, and have viewed tho work of architects throughout the country.
Tentative plans, subject to the approval of the architect (who will be given a free band), have been drawn up for developing tlie great site, which will extend front' tho British Museum id luiston road.
These plans include, in addition to all tho necessary colleges, institutes and schools, a university hall to seat 2500, a library, a faculty club, chambers fertile junior staff, and residential accommodation for students, the whole domiillited Ity a huge central lower. The work, which will probably begin next year; will take from twenty to thirty years to complete, and will cost ibetween £2,000,000 and £3,000,000. The university, in short, will be one worthy of tho capital city of the British Empire.
