Regulations for the bettor control of sideshows at public exhibitions were discussed at the annual conference of the Auckland provincial council of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The object of the regulations is to eliminate the gambling element and to exclude undesirable persons from the shows. It was stated that there was every likelihood of legislation being introduced on the lines recommended.
The subject of knitting wool was discussed at the Wellington Chamber bt Commerce, the question liavihg been asked as to why so milch imported wool was on the market when New Zealand mills were able to produce-wool of equal and even better quality.' It was' explained that one ol the'largest, suppliers of knitting wool in'the Dominion'shine time ago prepared samples and offered them to the trade, being ready then to produce on a large scale. Retailers, how ever, were reluctant to make purchases, •nice then, however, the boom ill the use of knitting wool had come and the manufacturers wore making every effort to meet the hew demand. For five moiiths the mills had been working to rapacity but were unable to cope With the orders.
Tho superiority of the motor-lorry over the horse dray even from tho point of view of economy was claimed by the engineer of the Takapuna Borough Council, Air. J. ]). Bodle, when the question of reducing expenditure on'.cartage was under consideration by .the council, lie said the motor vehicle's greater speed and carrying capacity and the fact that it could Le made available at a moment's notice made it much more suitable than the dray for the type of work required to be done in the borough. On the whole lie considered it would also prove less expensive. It was, decided to keep in commission one of the council's two, lorries for transport work and one of the three drays for miiior road repairs and the removal of refuse,
