GISBORNE AERO CLUB

FLYING TRAINING INCREASED ACTIVITIES Arrangements made a few,months ago with Die Hawke’s Bay Aero Club to provide training for members of the Gisborne Aero C.uli have progressed smoothly and a number of local members are now almost ready to be examined for their "A” licenses. Flight-Licut. Gould is in charge of the [raining, and speaks highly of the enthusiasm shown among local members. Except for the danger of the power lines, the Awapuni aerodrome is . ideal for training, and the hangar is found very convenient in ihat the planes can be 'bandied without the necessity of folding the wings every time it is necessary to put a machine away. Tbo six Gisborne members who have down solo, and are now putting in the final practice before examination for their licenses are, Messrs. W. 1). Barker, Alex MePhail, Simon Baring, (!. 11. Cooper, Allan llolmes, and J. Milner Gibson. In addition to these members, Messrs. W. Collett, P. ,1. Allen, Alan Pods, and V. L. Irwin, who obtained their licenses last year, are obtaining furl her experience. With the approach of summer weather the activities of the club will be further increased and already lliere are several members who have indicated their desire to be included in the next batch to receive instruction. F’iight-Lieut. Gould will be glad to meet any intending members. ’I he club is holding a cabaret at the. Blue Room on Saturday evening and intends holding a ball late in the season. The committee has under consideration "the development of the social side of the club and hopes to raise enough money Ibis season to erect a small clubroom at the aerodrome for the use of iiminbei's. P is hoped to enlist the support of a ladies’ committee to provide aiternoon tea at the week-ends. Already large numbers of the public find it interesting to visit the aerodrome at the week-end to watch the flying, and with the gradually increasing number of Gisbornoites taking up Hying the provision of a clubroom will be welcome.

Mr. J. G. Nolan, president of the dub, is now en route to England and intends visiting aero clubs in that countrv to obtain the latest information and ideas on the development of aero club acti 1 itics and local members are looking for'' aid to bis return later in Ibe year. For the present it is not possible to obtain a Government subsidy or the. loan of planes for Ibe Gisborne Aero 'Club, but with a return of prosperous times the club hopes to be in a position eventually to purchase a machine and obtain further support from the Govei nrueiit.
