RELIEF WORK SYSTEM QUEENSLAND'S DIFFICULTIES BRISBANE, July 4. "Though the department I. control has not given everyone all they think they ought to have, we have apportioned our funds Mil such a way that I can say,there is no man, woman, or child hungry in this State, as there are in other places in the Commonwealth, and 'during the year it has been made possible for 30,000 men to perform useful service for the community and' to retain their selfrespect," said the Minister, for Labor and industry, Mr. Sizcr, to-day, referring to the system of allocating relief work. He said that the size of a family must be taken, into consideration, and the industrial code should be altered so that those who had a bigger share of responsibilities should receive also a bigger share of assistance. So 'far as the Government was concerned, it was going straight to its objective of straightening out the difficulties, irrespective of any coming election. It would be better to Jose an election than to mislead. He had confidence in the commonsenne of the public, and in their recognition of the results in New South Wales, where the people had been misled and had acted contrary to their judgment and elected a Government which had promised them the moon. In that State small people in the Government Savings Bank had lost their money. They "Sad not lost it in Queensland, and while they might have to contribute a penny here and another there, the Government had not yet and never would take the pennies of the children in the Savings Bank.
