SKYSCRAPERS FOR LONDON

NEW YORK MAN'S PLAN HOUSES ABOVE FOGS NEW YORK, June 8. Mr. Earnest A. Jackson, one of America's leading business men, to-day revealed a remarkable plan he has of erecting in London skyscrapers taller than th'» newest and most modern in New York

Mr. dackson is aware of the restrictions regarding the height of buildings in Britain, but believes that, when he has fully explained his project to the L.C.O. and other authorities, _ consideration will at least bo given to it. He is ready to put up premises 80 storeys high, and this is how he explained the matter: "I have always felt that the inhabitants •of London are handicapped by winter fogs. My scheme is to build hotels and apartment houses that. will be so high that fogs will not matter. If, for example, I erect a 'building of only 40 storeys, it will be possible for people to live in sunshine in the top 25 floors. •'My executives are now working in this connection, but I realise that some time must elapse before the authorities in Britain can be persuaded that skyscrapers are as necessary in a city like London as they are in New York. Another point is this; I am convinced that Britain and the United States are just about to emerge from the long period of depression. I have money to spend, and I want to spend it because I feel that by so doinfj I will help in bringing back prosperity. If I am permitted to go through with my project I will certainly help the building industry in your country, but back of my mind is the conviction that sooner or later London will have to give the same consideration to height of buildings as is now given to ground £10,000,000 DEAL Mr. Jackson lives in Chicago, but he is at present in New York arranging lho details of the biggest deal that has been negotiated since the war. The amount of money involved is £10,000,003. and the second party to the deal is One of the most famous of film companies. The deal is practically comnlote, which means that by the end of this week Mr. Jackson will possess tho real estate occupied bv over 600 cinema, bouses. "It is likely that lie will also take over a number of picture theatres in London and certain provincial towns in Groat Britain.
