"BUYING-IN" SYSTEM OPPOSITION BY GROWERS (I'or Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night . Mv. T. If. Foster .moved that such legislation lie strenuously opposed by the association, and referred to a recent decision given in the Supreme Court on the subject. Buying ,iri, lie said, was "a bad thing for the growers. Ho instanced a case where a grower had taken a, consignment of potatoes to Wellington, taking some to one auction room, and some to another. At the, second room, the day's market; price of Ms was paid, but when, lie went back, to the other room, the potto toes had been withdrawn, and he was only paid Bs. Mi'. W. Copping said that there were firms in Wellington which could bo pulled up for illegal buying in, but the. producers could do nothing, its they had not the money to tight vested interests. Mr. H. L. Falla, Christehurch, said the system had keen the salvation of some growers in Canterbury. ■ Mr.. Rushworth: We have put the fear of God into them at Christ church'.

The president, Mr, C. E. Pope, said that some growers refused to put their produce in tho market by the side of imported fruits and had taken it to another auctioneer. Fr. Poster contended that ,if country buyers were represented in' tlio market, prices would be much higher than they were.

The president said the Canterbury association had. given, instructions to oppose such legislation. The subject was referred to the various associations for consideration. .
