WORK FOR UNEMPLOYED

(To the Editor of the Herald). Sj rj —As it appears that local bodies are exhausting the avenues for utilising the unemployed of our town through the operation of No. 5 scheme, and much justifiable criticism lias 'been made upon the work they have largely, been used upon, may I be permitted to suggest through your columns to the responsible body a work that should be undertaken. The roadway and approaches in front of the Taruheru cemetery are in much need of attenion. A great deal of levelling could be undertaken to provide a parking place for cars in attendance at funerals and those who make visits to this cemetery. On both sides of the gateway are hillocks and banks that cars have to bump over to get anywhere near, whilst most prefer the safety of leaving thencars at a distance down the road, entailing a considerable walk to the graveside and finding the service almost over On arrival. This may seem a small matter but when opportunity is afforded local bodies to get necessary works done, this is one that should be done as it would be of real public utility, and permanent benefit.—Yours, etc., "G.S.
