MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS FEW ARRESTS IN AMERICA NEW YORK, May I. To-day’s May Day celebrations were observed throughout the United States with parades and oratory, but virtually no disorders. Fewer arrests were made, the majority being of women and children accused of spreading Radical propaganda in New York city schools. Tho Communists and war veterans gathered in Union Square, the lattei hearing addresses against agitators and the former expressing opposition to capitalism, but the two groups kept apart without clashes. Certain slight disturbances occurred at Boston throughout the day, when Communists gathered on commons, but the police had little trouble in keeping the peace. May Day throughout Canada passed without serious disorders. Ottawa Communists were forbidden to parade and abandoned a march to Parliament Hill when mounted police assembled. INCIDENTS IN EUROPE RED FLAG ON NOTRE DAME ‘ PARIS, May 2. . Astonishment was expressed when the Red Flag was seen flying from the tower of the Notre Damo Cathedral. It was quickly removed and three workmen arrested. Similar incidents are reported throughout France, Rod flags being unfurled from steeples under general order from the Communist leaders. May Day casualties in Lisbon amount to two dead and 14 wounded. Minor incidents in Berlin led to 82 arrests. Seven were wounded at Munich.
