Lyttelton is now a port at which oilImruing vessels may he bunkered. In Ihe past Auckland and Wellington were the only two New Zealand ports, providing such facilities for oil-burners, and whaling vessels have been forced to go tn Wellington for supplies. This rise in status, if such' it may be called, of Lyttelton, is brought about by the Shelf Oil Co., which has made ieinpor ary arrangements at Lyttelton to store fuel nij. Tho Raimi la, the firsl tank steamer to discharge bulk fuel oil at Lyttelton, arrived at the port last week. The temporary storage will serve its purpose until permanent tanks now being constructed are erected. All that oil-burners will have to do in future will be to go alongside the oil wharf, couple up with the pipe-line, and draw supplies.
