! WOMAN WITNESS BURNT MAID OF STRANGLED ACTRESS NEW YORK, March 4. An attack by vitrei on a woman witness is the latest, sensation in the vice investigation in New York, which has already caused the death of one woman and the suicide of another. <■ >i i oisoy. a maid, of Cuban extraction, bad told the police that she went for a motor ride with her mistress, Vivian Gordon, the red-haired actress who was found strangled in the Van Gort la licit Park last week, on the night rf the tragedy, and she was to appear before tlie commission inquiring into tbe allegations of “framing” charges v dost women brought against the police. The sitting has been adjourned.” One of the men then hurled a ouantity of vitriol in her face, md l-oth disappeared when she screamed for her 1 usband. S'lie was badly burned on the chin ->nd eve. HP her doctor states that he is hopeful of saving her sight. She is now guarded by the police, but the assault prevented her appearance before the grand jury.
