HO WOOL WINS ON FIRST
The last matches of the season in the dub cricket competitions was disposed of on Saturday afternoon, when High School and Turanganui played the second half of their game which started three weeks ago. There was to have, been another club match finished, the (rams rnjjyjjutl heinjs Gisborne utui Git,\> lmt neither of these clubs was represented in force, and a scratch match was organised instead of the formal com-
petition game. lu their match with Turanganui, the students scored a 'first-innings win, the, only hatting done during .the afternoon being the continuation of Turanganui» innings. In their initial strike, on the opening day of the match, School had made 215, and their opponents had 23 mi the hook for no wickets, when play was suspended for the day. Nicholson and J. ('. Smith, the opening pair for Turanganui, wore not- together long on Saturday, for at 32 Smith was caught and bowled by Mace. More wickets fell cheaply, and there were .four dqwn. for 50 when Olsen joined Nicholson, and between them they added 82 before Nicholson's wicket fell to a smart catch hv Frazer off Mace. Thereafter, it was only a question of time before the innings closed, for though Olsen was going well in a patient effort to get runs, none of Hie remaining batsmen could stay for long, and the innings eventually Yielded 155.
The limitation of the Turanganui score was'mainly due to Mace, who. took seven wickets for 61- runs, and Carson, who; took two for 6, while smart fielding contributed to Hie success of the school teams. Details :—<
