NO WORK NO RATIONS
NEW BRISBANE SCHEME 985 PEWER CLAIMANTS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received April 10, 10 BRISBANE, April 10. A total' of 955 men vanished from the ration line in Brisbane alone during one , week. The Minister for Labor and industry wants to know why their disappearance coincides with a new scheme whereby able-bodied men must work for .the value of rations due.
Some interesting disclosures have been made regarding the issue of relief rations at Brisbane. The number of men receiving rations last week was 3342/ but a check kept on the men working for rations showed only 2258 cards returned. The .Minister for Labor, ‘Mr. ■ Sizer, finds tit hard to uelieve, that over IOUO men have found other employment during the week, and has ordered an investigation. The saving through the reduction in -number of recipients of rations will amount to over £60,000 a year.
