FOUR MEN DISAPPEAR
POLICE TO INQUIRE WEST AUSTRALIAN MYSTERY PERTH, April 2. Following the mysterious disappearance of three men —lxruis C-arron, z/, a French Canadian, whose charred remains detectives believe were found 50 miles south-east of Mount Magnet township; James Ryan, 45, formerly of Ivalgoorlie, and George Lloyd, about 30, formerly of South Australia —came the suggestion to-day that detectives might inquire into the whereabouts of Ernest Otway, 43, rabbit-trapper. A. J. Wood, of Group 75, Meelup, via Karridale, in the south-west, wrote to the Criminal Investigation Branch that Otway left -Karridale in March of last year, making by road for the Bullfinch district, lie intended, apparently, to continue overland to Youanmi, on the Murchison goldfield, because Wood and another group settler named Pchroeder arranged to correspond with Otway through H. J. Jones, storekeeper, oi Yoaanrni. This was necessary, because Otway could not read or write. Otway said he would return to Karridale about August last, or by Christmas at the latest. He had not returned, and letters sent to Jones had not been answered.
It is thought that Otway would have earned a fairly large amount of money if lie had gone as far as Youanmi.
No further news has been recived regarding Canon, Ryan, or Lloyd, who were last seen in the company of a man known as ‘‘Snowy” Ilowles’ the firstnamed in May of last year, and the other about five months earlier.
