CHICAGO'S NEW MAYOR
GREAT DEMOCRAT WIN A DIGNIFIED CAMPAIGN CHICAGO., April 7. Mr. Anton .1. (''rone") Ceramic, a former Bohemian coal-mine mule driver, administered to 'Big Bill" Thompson what apparently is the worst healing ever received by n Mayoralty candidate in Chicago. Cermak winning the- election, in which a record number of ballots were cast, by approximately 200,000 votes! ■
Mr. Thompson failed to do as well as expected, even in the section in which he hoped to find most favor. 'J lie results also considerably strengthened the State power of the Democratic Party. The election was quiet and devoid of nil disorder except for a lew minor list rights. Air. C'ermak, whoso candidature was markedly rl'igniried compared with that of Mr. Thompson's, takes office on Friday. He will, "clean out the City Hall" and remove therefrom as far as possible all traces of "Thompsonism." The new Mayor is 58 years of age and was born near Prague. He was brought to Chicago at the age of one year, and earned his own living when he was 11 years of age.
